Habitat - Base of moist wooded slopes, often on acidic substrates.

Origin - Native to U.S.

Other info. - This species can be found in the southeastern Ozark region of Missouri. The plant was only recently reported in the state (1993) and is apparently expanding its range in the U.S. L. digitatum is easy to ID in the field because of its numerous strobili and branching flattened stems. The rhizomes of this plant are located just below the leaf litter of the forest floor, not buried below the ground.
A synonym is L. flabelliforme (Fern.) Blanch.
