Flowering - May - June.

Habitat - Rocky open woods, occasionally along railroads. Typically on acid soils.

Origin - Native to U.S.

Other info. - This showy species can be found in the Ozark region of Missouri. The flowers of the plant are usually more of a pinkish-rose color than in the pics above but the plant I photographed had more whitish flowers with purple veins (much more striking than the typical color, I think). This species would look good in a garden setting if correct conditions could be provided.

Photographs taken in Linville, NC., 5-11-03.
