Habitat - Bottoms, mesic upland forests, rich ravines, fen margins, muddy streambanks.

Origin - Native to the U.S.

Other info. - This species can be found scattered throughout Missouri. The plant belongs to a difficult group of about 15 species that can be hard to distinguish. Some of the fruits of these species have smooth margins. The fruits of C. rosea (and a few other species) have minutely toothed margins.
